The Library

At Aldwickbury we fully understand the importance of learning to read for both study and for pleasure.

Aldwickbury library is situated in a central part of the School allowing easy access for both boys and staff. The library is very well equipped with a stock of over 4000 items including popular fiction titles, non-fiction, talking books and magazines, supporting all areas of the curriculum. The room is attractive and colourful and has been made very welcoming by using comfortable seating areas and artwork on display which has been produced by the boys.

Teaching takes place in the library on a daily basis and the boys are able to visit the library during break times and after lunch to read quietly or join in activities which help with the running of the library.

The library is often a focus of activity with events throughout the year including poetry recitals, writing workshops, and popular author events.

Reading Lab takes place in the library four times a week and involves boys from Year 8 who become reading partners for the younger boys. The boys enjoy their time together and it helps increase confidence with reading and analysing books. Other activities include a yearly celebration of World Book Day, with book related activities and a themed six book reading challenge.

To allow the older boys to gain more responsibility they are regularly involved in helping develop, improve and promote the library and there is always lots of enthusiasm when they are asked to help to create vibrant displays to promote stock, to give ideas on future reading challenges or to suggest ideas for new library stock. They like to be involved and all the boys take pride in their library.

We are all very proud of our library at Aldwickbury and consider it a fantastic resource for helping the boys develop a passion for reading and learning.
